Leanna and Michael came from Australia to get married in Lipari, the biggest of the Aeolian Islands. What fascinated me most was Michael’s family history and his strong connection to the island. His parents were both born in Lipari and moved to Australia very young, so for Micheal Lipari has always meant grandparents, family, roots and I found myself empathizing with it a lot.
Living far from Sicily, my homeland, and traveling a lot makes me feel the connection to my island in a deeper, stronger way. Lipari – as well as all the other Aeolian Islands, each one in its peculiar way – makes me feel home. Spending a few days in this tiny heaven surrounded by water means reconnecting to my inner self, to my deepest roots, to my islander nature.
